- Our primary Scriptural inspiration is the Biblical mandate (what we call the “Soul Care Commission”) to preach good news to the poor and to bind up the brokenhearted (Isaiah 61:1-3). Jesus declared this to be his mission, when he began his public ministry in Luke 4:18-19. Because Jesus did, so do we. A primary aspect of our mission and our vision is to support and restore the well-being of persons, in the midst of their circumstances, just as Jesus declared and demonstrated to be his mission all through the gospel accounts of his life.
- FCS is dedicated to a counseling ministry that is individual and personal, modeled after the individual, personal interest that God has in each one of us as affirmed and illustrated in Psalm 139, Luke 12:6-7 and Luke 15:3-32.
- FCS is passionate about the high priority Jesus placed on the internal life when he said to first clean the inside of the cup and then the outside would be clean (Matthew 23:26).
- As was true of the four friends of the paralytic, FCS is zealously committed to removing internal and external barriers that keep people from the healing presence of Christ (Mark 2:3-5).
- Scripture also inspires FCS to take the conversation between Jesus and the woman at the well as its model for ministry. In this sacred dialogue, Jesus revealed the woman to herself before he revealed himself to the woman (John 4:4-26). He helped the woman relate to her pain and suffering and her yearning for God in ways that were transforming.
- FCS is committed to receiving the special revelation of the truth of God in the Scriptures (2 Timothy 3:16-17) and to understanding the general revelation of the truth of God in creation (Romans 1:20). As part of being a ministry of God’s transforming power, FCS is committed to applying the highest level of Biblical, theological, clinical, and scientific knowledge and training possible. It is believed that special revelation, represented by Biblical truth and the theology derived from that truth, is absolutely primary for the process that makes people more like Christ. It is also believed that clinical and scientific knowledge, as part of God’s general revelation, can be used as helpful tools (only) in the Spirit-driven process that forms people into the image of Christ, as long as these tools are consistent with God’s special revelation in Scripture.
- The single purpose of the ministry of FCS is to assist the Spirit-driven process that forms Christ in people’s lives, mirroring the purpose for our lives that Scripture describes in Romans 8:29 and in 2 Corinthians 3:18.
- The desired result of fulfilling the purpose of our ministry is abundant lives (John 10:10), full of love from a pure heart (1 Timothy 1:5), that fulfill the two commandments Jesus gave us (Mark 12:28-31).
